What is a Preparation Course?

This course is designed for students wishing to gain some college experience and study skills and have the goal of studying for a QQI Level 5 award in the future.

The course is part time, taking place one, two or three days per week, depending on individual needs.

Is this course for me?

Do you need a step between your previous education and a full time course?

Do you need to increase your self confidence in your ability to study?

Did you leave school before your leaving cert?

Is English your second language?

Is your level of English stopping you from reaching your goals?

If you are over 16 and your answer is yes to some of these questions, then this course could be for you.

What subjects will I study?

Students will study core subjects such as Computer Skills, Communications or ESOL, Personal Effectiveness.  They will also take subjects in a specialism of their choice:

Childcare - Modules in Child Development and Play & Arts and Crafts

Beauty Therapy - Module in Human Biology sampling in Skincare

Some students may also choose to sample a level 5 module for example:

Airport Business Studies course - Business Administration or Marketing module

Psychology and Social Studies course - Young People and Society or Addiction Studies module

Timetables are tailored to student needs.

You may also access:

·      Guidance Counsellor support with applications and other future plans

·      Tutorials and mentoring

Am I Eligible?

People who left school without a leaving cert or are in receipt of a social welfare payment are eligible for this course.  Contact us for more information on eligibility.

Most applicants for this course benefit from a meeting in the college to discuss their goals before deciding which course of study to take.

How much is this course?

Free for those who left school before their leaving cert. (Irish and EU Citizens).

Other exemptions apply e.g. you have a medical card, you are in reciept of a social welfare payment.
